Throttle return spring question
« on: October 05, 2015, 04:42:22 PM »
Is the throttle return spring shown in this picture (held on with zip ties) required?   I noticed a few weeks ago that it had broken and I must have driven the YJ without that spring for at least a month before I noticed it was broken. It worked just fine, the gas pedal was just a bit less firm.

Someone rigged that one up.  There is a clock spring on the throttle body that should have enough force to close the butterfly.  I can actually see it in the pic under where the throttle cable is.  My guess is that someone though the spring was weak.

Thanks.  Actually, the reason I decided to ask is because I noticed your YJ did not have that spring in one of the injector installation pictures.

You can see the giant clock spring for the butterfly's in this pic.  If you wanted to firm up the pedal you can add another spring but it shouldn't be necessary.

Thanks. I'm going to leave it as is for now, but it's good to know it is not a problem if it breaks again.
