Topic: Newbie fuel injector question

Hey everyone been doing a lot of reading on the injector swaps.  I have the 98 TJ 2.5 single nozzle rated at 23.2lb/hr at 49 psi/hr, it seems many folks are doing the  Ford Design III 'Yellow' 19lbs Fuel injectors on the earlier model YJ's. So in my application does anyone know of a 4 spray pattern injector that would work that's readily available from the salvage yard.

I'm sure Sharp knows off the top of his head.  IIRC there's a 24lbs as well as a 26lbs.  If you do some searching on the forum you should be able to dig something up.

there are a few that could work, the ones that were used with good results are
0-280-156-028 about 24.2 at 49psi
0 280 150 965 is 24lb/hr at 49psi (the one you listed)
i think this both are 4 hole disc design but i'm not 100% sure
i'm not sure on the -028 connector, might be different but you can get adapters

Thanks for all the info you must have some kind of master cross reference ninja catalog going on or something which is awesome.  I already made the mistake of picking up the yellow injectors from salvage yard couple of weeks ago so gonna see if they will swap em out with me, hopefully so.

no problem, i don't have a catalog just searching the internet for injector p/n and flows and calculating the result for the higher pressure. there are some listed in the FAQ section as well (if you didn't check it out have a look) with the flows for 49 psi (TJ) and 39 psi (YJ).

Hey Sharp -

Thanks for posting that link. I've been thinking about doing this for a long time but have been kinda paranoid about getting the wrong injectors. I contacted the seller and he sold me a set of four, cleaned, tested and with new o-rings for a very reasonable price. The most time consuming part of the swap was bending the fuel rail tabs right to accommodate the shorter injectors, but I was still done in less than an hour.

To me the idle seems the same but it is peppier off the line and definitely has more "oomph" on the freeway - sort of like the difference between having the AC on or off. The best part, though, is the 1.75 extra mpg I've gotten through the first two tanks. That's a 12% increase, even with towing my little trailer that I use for work!

Well got good news and bad, took the injectors I had already bought back to the junkyard and they were going to let me swap them out.  The problem was they had no explorers in the year range I needed.  I decided to look for the 0 280 150 965 injectors and to my luck there were plenty but unfortunately those only have the single spray pattern and I checked multiple cars ( avenger, Sebring, eclipse, etc). So didn't find no injectors but I did get the lap belt seat belt (seat belt project so my daughter will let 18 mo grandson ride in Jeep, long story) and some 4x6 kicker speakers out of a Cherokee, plus money back to boot.  Then went by dealership and they were able to order the car seat tether strap bracket only $7.00.  So was a good day.  Will try some other junkyards this week when I'm off if the honey do list isn't full.

are you sure they're single hole? i looked at some pics and they show 4 holes, they are the bigger design not like the yellow ford ones.

no problem, i didn't know they were sorter but good to know you figured out a way to install them (you should do a little writeup).

I did take some out of the 2.5 V6 (I think) but they were real short

I did the eclipse, Sebring, and avenger couldn't find no neons in the year range.
