Temp Sending unit.

  Ok so I broke the Original one.  Super glued it back together and it worked but I did not trust it.  So Got one from Napa it did not even work.  So picked one up fro Orielly's it works but reads High.  210 -220 I'm running a 195 Deg thermostat.  Pulled out the trusty Craftsman heat Sensor.  At the Thermostat housing it fluctuates around 191 -197 so I think the thermostat is working fine.


  Question is anybody else run into this, where do you get one that reads right.

Never had to replace one.  The temp sender for the gauge is in the cylinder head not on the thermostat housing.  So that could be the reason why you're temp reading is different.  It could also be the accuracy or inaccuracy of the sending unit, gauge and or resistance in the wiring.  As long as the temps are within reason, I wouldn't worry too much about it.  Most of the cheap parts have the same sub-contractor making them.

With the Factory sending unit put in the readings are back to normal.

Not sure of Part Number but the one from NaAPA did not even register and the one from Orielly's read way high.  The Factory one comes from Dodge and they guy had a real hard time finding it.


  Also when I say reading normal it reads Higher than the one I had to begin with.  But it should since I have a 195 Deg Thermostat not the 180 as I thought.  So the Original was reading low.  Now its right on.

 The one thing I did notice was the plastic top on the teo that did not work were black.  The one that worked was white.

Get the temp sending unit from the dealer.  I have read a few articles where the people buying them from Autozone, Napa, crown, etc don't get accurate readings.  Aftermarket ones are ~10$, but dealer one is ~25$ (the back of the head one).  If buy the one that's in the thermostat housing it's closer to ~75$ and that's for the computer, not your gauge.

I replaced mine a month or two ago, along with some prestone superflush and never gets past that 210 mark, and I was just out 4wheeling saturday in Wickenburg, AZ (a little nw of Phoenix, but still hot).
