Topic: Another exhaust question

Ok so now that I fixed the broken stud problem and that part of my exhaust is fixed the other problems surfaced. My catalitic conveter is rattling like the insides are falling apart. I dont want it to start to plug up if its not already. So my question is on a 95 will it be fine to delete the cat? Anyone ran a 4 banger without a cat without troubles? I appreciate all input!!

Well, actuallt it's illegal in all states.  just not all of then enforce it until they want to.  If you're in a group, people will not want to drive behind you though.  You won't be gaining any performance by removing it and a bolton replacement is only $100 or if you're cheap a weld on is $50.

I don't find efi engines smell that bad without them but carb vehicles you can sure tell

X2 on the replacement.  You really won't gain anything without it.  It could even throw a CEL( not to sure on the OBD1 systems).  I ordered one from Summit raceing a few years ago and it was around $100.  Also the noise could the heat shield that is sometimes above the cat.

it will only throw a cell if it's obd II with a sensor behind the cat.  no sensor behind the cat means it's not monitored!!!

Before getting rid of your cat check with the dealer and see if there are any recalls for them my 95 had one.  But because I changed it out myself they did nothing.

If there is still material inside the cat you can sell it to a recycler for what it would cost for a new cat.  Or at least half the cost for a bolt-on.

Check the Jeep website for vehicle recalls outstanding on your Jeep. My 1997 TJ's cat did the exact same thing a couple of years ago. The ceramic honeycomb that is in the guts of the cat crumbled apart and was rattling something fierce. It turned out that there was a factory vehicle recall on the cat. Got it swapped out by the dealer. They had problems removing the original O2 sensor and it was damaged in the process. They stung me for the cost of the new sensor, but the cat and labour was covered. Not bad eh?! Worth you checking out.

My 94 had 3 replaced under warranty,,, :) They wouldn't change the O2 because there was no code.
Since #3 happended just before the warrantee ran out I changed the O2 myself the day they put teh new cat on.
