My windshield is stuck heh
« on: May 29, 2011, 11:55:00 PM »
Ok well, I was trying to lower my windshield the other day and its stuck.  I'm pretty sure this is the first time anybody has messed with it.  I removed the bolts from the two side roll bars, and then just removed the two brackets above the speakers.  Any tips on getting it to lower without to much force? its on a YJ by the way if that matters heh

Maybe some PB Blaster on the hinges.

Does it move at all?  Maybe the cowl seal is glued on.

Its just really stiff heh and I thought about using some PB blaster but will that mess with the paint at all?

It could.  Maybe just use WD40 or regular oil first to be safer.

I use Kroil, penetrats great and have had no problem with paint.  I do not use wd40 because it will evaporate. Tthe Kroil sticks around.

PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, CLP Break-free, etc...  Don't use WD40 unless you have to.  And if you do clean it up afterwards.  WD40 has lacquer in it which when dries towns into a glue.  3in1 oil would be better then WD40.  Try soaking it then rocking the windshield back and forth a little.  It should free up.

good point

I would think he wants to drive it so should really remove the horizontal side bars going to the windshield on each side (that way the visors can stay on, the bolt holes might fail if you keep taking the bolts out, mine are rattling and i kept replacing the screws with bigger ones).
