What toots your horn!
« on: January 06, 2012, 12:38:24 AM »
So I am a pretty aggressive driver and when you cut out in front of me I honk. The horn in the jeep is kinda pathetic in my opinion so yesterday I installed a 120 decibel air powered Wolo trumpet big rig horn. It was an easy install and I have the horn set up for push button activation!!! Here is the horn http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Trumpet-Big-Rig-Wolo_10013744-P_N3074_A%7CGRP2021_____#fragment-4

This is what I wish I could afford!!!!!!  :yikes: http://www.pbmissions.com/p6-Maximus-Horns-Level-2-Kit-170dB.html?osCsid=bd4e57565a90075ae8749318da3f5fd2

What set up do you have in you Jeep?

I hate my horn.  It only has one horn.  I think it's the high horn so there's no bass to it.  Higher end Jeeps has two horns.  I like the GM horns from most of their trucks and higher cars.

Hella males a nice set of horns that are electric, Supertones.

Air horns are cool and all BUT for those big ones, you have to charge your tank and keep it charged.  That means running the compressor when you start the vehicle up then keeping it charged.  Kind of a PITA if you're going to only be using it maybe once in a month.

Stebel sells a horn that many motorcycles like to use.  THey go under a few different names but they're all from china, I think.  It's a compact electric horn that's loud.

Just keep in mind, you can get ticketed for a crap your pants loud horn.

Got my Horns at

http://www.aerostich.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=horns

The Ear Cannon was the one that would not fit on my HD and once I can get my Horn Button Working again I will put on the Jeep.

The Fiam Freeway Blaster is what finally fit the HD, I like how it sounds.  Like one of the cars from the 50's it makes you turn to see whats coming.

Mine is the Hella Dual Tone kit with the two horns and I think it's about 11 years old at this point.
It's good for highway traffic where when you hit the horn, it's probably to ward off somebody who doesn't see you.   In the city, if you're reminding somebody that a traffic light is green, it's enough just to give the horn a little tap.

One thing to look out for with this dual tone kit and probably Hella's tri-tone kit, also:
-Electrical connections to the pump itself. Hella provided latchless blade-type connectors on mine.  If your air pump is mounted upside down and the connectors are crimped, the connection can get disturbed (probably due to gravity, driving on trails and rough roads).
This happens and no horn when you need it.  I had this horn installed, then I moved, so I ended up correcting this myself.

That is why I went with a push button and I have a 92. I figure though when I take the steering column apart to fix the turn signal switch I might accidently fix it and have another horn!!!
