2.5 Cam Upgrade?
« on: March 22, 2012, 07:59:51 PM »
Read some really old forums on a Cam upgrade for a 94 YJ with a 2.5.  Apparantly there were three different Cam upgrade kits available right from the dealer.  Not available any longer.  Does anyone know of a "Performance" cam upgrade that can be done without redoing the head?   :naughty:

There were actually 5 different cams available.  All the cams were basically drop-in.

some require different springs,

best bet is a re-grind or i think one of the following might have a 4 cyl (can't remember which one): Clifford, Hesco or Comp Cams.

I believe it was Hesco and Clifford, at one point.  I never looked a Comp Cams. I was looking into it, but never commited to it. I don't know if they still offer it or not anymore.

Comp Cams can do a Cam regrind.  I have a post somewhere on here about searching for cams.  Hesco was the only one I found that had a cam.

I have the Hesco, I like the power band a lot (I have the RVOB version) It was drop shipped form Clay Smith... I think Hesco owns the grind and Clay does the work.

What have you found that the cam does for your Jeep?  Can you actually "feel" the difference?  I know it's only a 4 banger, but am curious how much of a difference it really made.  Havent' tore down the top end.  Was it difficult?
