I recently pulled my engine to send it off for a rebuild.  After pulling the engine, I found the source of a long time transmission leak.  It's coming from the bottom of the oil pump gasket.  Can the gasket be replaced fairly easily?

I called a local shop, they told me if I pull the tranny, and bring it to em, $250 to fix the leak.  It's slow enough that I'm just going to monitor it for the time being, maybe put a little Lucas Transmission goop in there.

If you pull it you might as well fix it yourself.  Sounds like you don't want to pull it.

Just me after the engine is out how hard is the trans to pull.  I would fix it now.

I would think you could probably do it with the transmission in place if you have the engine out.

i think he wants to take the transmission out for a rebuild, it's tricky and you need an extra set of hands to balance everything while lowering a floor jack under the skid (you need to take the driveshafts and shifters out first).

Ratchet straps are very helpful in making sure the trans doesn't fall.

The trans has to be dropped to fix the leak.  The difference between the engine in and out is 6 bolts.  The leak is slow enough that I'm going to just nurse it for the time being.  If it gets bad, then I'll just drop the trans for a total rebuild.

Its really a 10 minute fix if the tranny is out.
Order a new pump from NAPA Its a O-ring seal on most, the gasket is secondary.

REALLY common for the Torqueflight(Mopar 727)  variants to leak here.

I've swapped a couple front pumps out for friends and they got a hundred + K more miles on the transmission.
