Got a light ... anyone?
« on: June 01, 2013, 11:56:50 AM »
OK I feel kinda bad for this stupid kid, but I laughed my butt off. I mean there are seriously so many things wrong with this. Just remember when you finally swap that V8 in your TJ the following learned lessons:

1. When it sparks the first time you try to start it, probably an indication you've done something wrong.
2. Fuel pump out of a gas can ... maybe a bad idea
3. Pulling fuel pump out of said gas can with flames in the general area ... again maybe bad idea
4. Can we say garage fire extinguisher?
5. Well you get the idea .......

Another reason why stupid should hurt. He's very lucky he didnt end up in the burn ward. Funny watching him determined to start it as it would be put out magically and not get worse.

If the fire was only in the carb trying to start it would put the fire out... but having gas covering the entire engine made it irrelevant. Should have had the gas can further away and stopped trying when gas was running all over the engine. then again hindsight is 20/20.  :fish:

Could have solved it by having a fire extinguisher near by.  Just about every race engine builder has someone on hand with one at the ready.  It's fairly common to get the timing wrong on the first time and have it backfire out the intake.

Good thing I'll never be swapping a V8 into a nonexistent TJ.

A V8 in a Mazda Miata is just a recipe for a tire burner. The car is really too light in the rear, and putting a big heavy engine up front would make it a pain to drive anyway.

As far as TJ is concerned if your going to swap anything under the hood, it should be a diesel ;-)

You'd be surprised how light a LS motor is.  The weight distribution is usually the same though.  You use a beefier rear end as well as transmission.  I've heard it adds maybe 200lbs overall.
