R30/R32 ??

Gentlemen, it seems as though all the major rebuilders have quit supporting the R30/R32 series. Is there any other trans that will 'bolt-in/plug-and-play' in a 2.5L '98 TJ?. The R30 appears to be a neutered 727 Torque-Flite, so I'm hoping that there's something that is supported, that will fit. I know there are rebuild kits, and between me and my wrench-turning friends, we can get it done. But eventually, this thing will be driven by one of my grandsons. And neither or them are any type of gearhead.
Any ideas?

The R30 is a TF727 and the R32 is a TF999.  Both are pretty standard for any Mopar.  They are for the most part bulletproof transmissions.  The only thing you'll have to ask is if they have a 4wd option.  Otherwise, you'll have to do a tailhousing swap yourself.

Hey Mr. Jeffy. Does that mean that the 727s behind 383s and Hemis have the same internals as the R30?
I, too, had always assumed that the 727 was bullet-proof. If we're both right, what's the noises I'm hearing? It sounds like a loose screen over a catalytic converter. But there ain't none. The noise is a rattle/rumble that is more attached to vehicle speed than RPMs. It doesn't show up until you engage the trans. Idling in neutral there's nothing. I've taken off the top and doors, removed the passenger seat and it's still there.

I'd be suspecting something loose in the cat or more likely muffler.

This os one of the reasons why I highly recommend a bolt-on cat-back exhaust when people replace their exhaust.  It makes troubleshooting like this much easier.
