intake and exhaust affect other parts?
« on: September 11, 2006, 08:07:32 PM »
Do I need to do somehing to my motor after putting on a header , flowmaster muffler , and intake system with a throttle body spacer? My plugs are stock as well as the wires. I did not regap my plugs. My injectors are the same, I did nothing to the computer. I did not chip it .  I just do not feel a big power increase that is expected with a header. I feel actually no power increase.  I am unsure whether I left anything out. It took long enough for me to install it so I left nothing out, no spare parts.  I only have 30" tires on it.

Did you disconnect your battery so the computer resets and, hopefully, accomodates the mods?  (Guessing you probably did or, even if you didn't, the computer has probably adjusted by now)

Adustable MAP sensor is probably not a bad idea now that you have all that intake/exhaust gear on there.  It will richen he fuel curve to match the higher air flow.  The 2.5L is not Mass Air Flow -- air/fuel ratio is, instead, set by MAP sensor, Intake Air Temp (IAT) sensor and RPM.  You can move the IAT sensor off of the intake manifold and down the intake pipe where it's a little cooler, which will likely help the fuel curve a little.

since you're in Kalifornia, you're probably going to have to do a ton of expensive trial and error testing with an adjustable MAP sensor to get emissions square for CARB.  If you are game to try it, Adjustable MAP sensors for 2.5L YJs/TJs are sold by Turbo City in OC.  www.turbocity.com

I was just thinking about some other stuff for my jeep. I was wondering what effect those mods would have, it seems strange that you are expireincing nothing from them. Also, I was hoping someone could answer a question I had about the jet-chip. I was reading the website and it said that the chip adjusts the fuel/air ratio to a more optimum setting. Does this mean that it would be worthless to get the chip and an intake/tb spacer with the chip? Would the chip simply maintain the preprogrammed setting therefore render the added air from intak/spacer useless? Umm thanks guys

i just did not fell much difference with tthe header installed. The intake and throttle body spacer are good improvements. I have heard the chip is good but have not gotten it yet.  i was just looking at JC Whitney.com and they have a new electric turbo unit for $350.00 . It does not specifically produce one for our Jeeps but it has one for the chevy cavalier and I think they are the same motor and same diameter of air intake tubing. They have one for a chevy monte carlo 2004 as well. it gets good reviews , but ...
