I was wondering if anyone is running one, and if in your opinion it was worth the money, i have been contimplating swaps, turbos, and superchargers. Did you upgrade anything in the drivetrain? also how hard was the install? any info, advice is welcome

I have a 97 TJ 2.5L manual, and it has 37k miles on it

When you consider down time, the SC is the way to go.  You should be able to keep the AX-5 in there for a while but it probably would be best to swap in a NV3550.  If you have an auto, the auto would should be strong enough.  With a SC, you'll have as much power as a 4.0L without the added weight.  So you'll want to be careful if you run larger tires and lockers.  It would be smart to swap the rear axle out also.

I got a $4,000 quote to swap in a 6 cylinder/tranny/transfer case combo with all electrical wires and coputers hooked up in the High Desert in California. those avengers cost close to the same amount when considering an install. Not to mention the desire to upgrade the pistons and camshaft and all the other stuff to accomodate the new higher pressures on your system.
    A v-8 swap will be close to the same as well.

 You decide!
 I will save my money for a v-8 swap in the next few years. 4wd hardware just came out with bolt on v-8 swap engine mounts for my TJ so the future is looking bright for me. I'd rather have a small block chevy v-8 under my hood. Then again ???

On another note I saw an electric turbo at J.C whitney for $350.00 that just gives boost when you turn the switch on. It can't be run for more than a alf an hour but it's enogh to pass a car I suppose. they don't make one for a Jeep but I am assuming it will fit in my intake tube anyway.

But are they doing a complete SMOG legal swap?  Last time I checked a 5.7L pre-vortech on a pre OSBII YJ was still close to $10,000 for all the labor and wiring, getting it through the Referee and 100% legal.

If you have a TJ you get stick with a ODBII engine and deen all of that extra stuff.  Like multiple O2 sensors (possible up to 4) Cats and pre-cats.  This become a problem when trying to stuff a V8 from a truck that had dual exhaust.  It's all got to be in there.  If you bought a complete donor and did all the work, then sold off the frame, any body parts, axles, etc,...  you could probably keep the cost down.  But you might still run into problems with the referee.  A friend did a 5.9L into a '97 TJ a few years ago.

Now another guy I know did a '99 4.3L Vortech in his '95 YJ.  He bought the engine cheap, $500 with tranny.  Took hi several months to get it installed.  He ran into many problems but finally got it running.  It was not a legal swap but the Jeep was registered in another state.  He still say's if he he had to do it over again he would have finished his turbo install instead.

Can we get away from that e-turbo nonsense.  He wants a real solution.  

Looking back at the original post;  what size tires do you have?  I'm starting to suspect you might have larger then stock and are still running stock gears.  This would really account for it's sluggish performance.  With that few miles on the engine, it's still in it's prime.  With the right gearing it should be able to turn larger tires fairly comfortably.

I have 33 inch tires, with 4:10 gears stock, but yea i was thinkin about doin a engine swap but i was more considering either a homebrew turbo, or a supercharger, i have an exhaust 4.0l throttle bodt and spacer, lookin to get headers soon, but i was really considering a s/c for the summer, how bout the computer mods, does it come with all of that stuff, cause i dont wanna waste a ton of time tunin the thing

Sounds like you have a lot of time and money already invested in your 4 banger.  But, you could sell it and probably get a decent price and then take the money and buy a 4.0L Wrangler, maybe even one that's lifted and fitted w/33s already and one with the D44 option.  Might cost you an extra $2000-$4000 or so on top of what you'd get if you resell your 4 cylinder Wrangler.

Buying a 4.0L Wrangler might cost additional money, about the same as the cost of adding a supercharger to your 4 banger.  But, buy the 4.0L vs supercharging the 4 banger might be less of a headache in the long run (4.0 Jeep is already setup to handle the additional power; not so with the 4banger) and offer better upgrade power potential as parts wear out - ie. headers will tend to do more for a 6 cyl versus a 4 cyl.  

But, I'm personally ok with my 4 banger YJ - it'll still do trail with rigs costing 10-20 times as much and it drives ok in town and on higway. If I want power, I'll lease a C6 corvette. :lol:

Yeah, they take it from a wrecked tj 4.0 L  and transplant everything for roughly$ 4,000 with exhange in hysperia.
 I was warned against dumping money in the dana 35, so I am not re gearing it from 4:10. My housing just spewed and i need a replacement which is not going to be a D 35. Whe i get my 44 or something else good, I'll do a 4:56 or better.

 His ax-5 tranny will go under the super charger and maybe the rest of his drivetrain as well.  From what I understand the stock stuff is not meant for anything above 150 hp motors and the super charger will put him at 200 hp.  The ford Taurus has a axod4, related to the ax-4, which has to be replaced evry 60,000 miles at $3500.00 a pop. I heard that the old military jeeps used a little turbo on them, from a vietnam vet driver.
