so i was out yesterday and parked next to a jk, decided to take a look at it and well its 2wd.  had some bullshit front axle, a 2wd wrangler, now we all know where jeeps have gone.  Looked it up last night, and they will still charge you $18,000+ for that model.  this just further proves jeep jk= jeep just kiding

no clue what the point of a 2wd wrangler would be especially if the cost doesnt change much.

Considering only 10% ever take their Jeeps offroad, we are the minority.  They can not stay in business if they are only selling to 10% of the market.  Only some Unlimited come in 2wd, the X and the Sahara.  So not all of the JK , just 2 out of the 6 different variations.

There were in the past 2wd islander Jeeps. Jeeps that were open cockpit, maybe ran some bikini top, but no doors, etc. Colors were bright and white. So getting around in a 2wd 2k# open cab golf cart is what it really was and if you only took sandy trails and can drive in 2wd, what is the extra weight of the axle/case/driveline going to do, so its not necessary. I'm surprised Jeep took this long to get a straight non-drive axle up front. An XJ 2wd axle would work but they never did it.

Today, a little snow, people drive around in the 2wd cars. You may have 4wd, no wait, think you have 4wd, but all that is going on is 2 driveshafts spin, 1 wheel at each axle rotates (unless there are some type of locker/ls), so you only have 2wd and the cars have 1wd.
Now engineering and design has taken the electronics to play in this game and tire slip control is now added. It works off the speed variance between the wheels on the same axle as well as the other. Some computer controls all of it. Or you may have limited slip, but in time, these wear out and no longer work properly.
Back to the snow, if you have your Jeep in 4wd, then you are still just creeping along like all the others in 2wd.

About the only time I shift into 4wd is when I'm trailriding. The street always sees 2wd.

not to totally change the subject but i went to the new lifetime fitness neer my house and they are having a rock climbing thing and if you do it you get entered to win a 4door yk wrangler... the catch is you have to be 18 or older so i cant do it,.. but Im making my brother and dad do it so that we may get another jeep... hey then we would have a cj, a yj, a tj, and a jk.. thats one of each abbreviation for the jeep jeep.. other than dj but that wasnt a reel jeep cuss only 2wd..

Here in Ohio I love 4wd on the street.  Makes driving on slippery roads a LOT easier.  Keep in mind most cars on the road today are front wheel drive.    I know a lot of people up here who switch from their rear wheel drive vehicle to a 4x4 or front wheel drive car for the winter.

The islander was a short-lived YJ, and there was never a 2wd YJ offered stateside that I'm aware of.

Saw my first JK in a Ralph's (grocery store) parking-lot.  It looked like a Wrangler that had too many goes at a Breakfast Buffet :roflol: .

Should come out with bumper stickers like the following:

"JK": I liked you better when you were in shape and they called you "TJ"  

(Actually, don't mean to be too hard on the new Wrangler.  One of my New Year's Resolutions is to get used to the JK, since it's here to stay)
