Revolver Shackles: give CJ/YJ more flex than TJs have?

Ok, here's the deal.  The strap control the shackles by preventing BOTH of them to drop at the same time.  They are able to work independently though.  This reduces 'jacking' when climbing.  This is why the limiting strap is located at the center of the diff.  If they were located at the ends, it would limit extension of each side but wouldn't prevent them from unfolding together.

If you use the shackles up front, then you should also use the limiting strap.  A custom bracket will need to be made for the strap.  In the front it will also help prevent the shackles from unfolding when stuck or when winching.  When the front is stuck and you try to continue forward the shackles will open up and the front will rise.  This isn't good.  Same thing happens when winching and the front is stuck.

As for U-joint angles, it helps that too since it doesn't allow the pinion yoke to change location very much.

Didn't know about these Z-Box deals that are supposed to complement the action of the Revolver Shackles.

Unless you're a ramp queen, I wouldn't run them.  Especially not on a street vehicle.  I believe after designing them, Curt H., sold everything to Teraflex (who doesn't really know much about leaf springs.)  They take a lot of work to get take full advantage of them.  You can't just simply bolt them on and expect to be a have more travel when a properly built lift that cost $$$$'s.  Revolvers have their place but most people don't go through the whole process to get them installed and working safely and to their fullest.  Revolvers require longer shock and brakelines as a minimum.  Triangulating the rear shocks will help too.  Metal Made Rite (the original company that is gone) and M.O.R.E. sells the rear shock mount and the longer front hoops that Curt designed.

Simple answer, do it right once or do it again later.

I might give the Revolvers/straps a go at some point.  I have the longer brake lines designed for a four inch lift....

But, now that I think about it, what happens if you run revolvers on a YJ that already has a 4 inch lift and longer brake lines designed for such a lift?  Do you have to then run even longer brake lines (than lines designed for a lift) to let the Revolvers extend fully?

Yes.  The shackles will still extend further then the leafs would alone.  You'll also need to make sure the brakelines are long enough too.  Keep in mind that Teraflex does not sell the limiting straps.  So you will need to have them made or make them yourself.  For $400 for a set plus all the other parts necessary for the Revolvers to work at their full potential, you're looking at $5-600.  You might as well save the money and get a proper suspension kit first.
