Front Turn Signal Wiring

Putting in my new LED's and can't figure out which wire goes where.

Have the schematic and it looks like black is the ground.

Trying to figure out what the Black/yellow wire does (turn signal??) and the colored wire (tan for right and grey for left) do (parking light??).

HEEEELP??

Okay...logic is my friend...but still a problem.

Black is ground....okay

Black/yellow should be parking light....okay

"colored" wire should be turn signal....okay.

All hooked up and seems to work...at least when the lights are off.

Turn signals work.

I turn my lights on...everything looks good...lights, signals, side markers all light up....but my flasher indicators are on and the turn signals now won't flash....HEEEELLLLLP!!!

Okay for running during the day...but I can't signal at night??

Hah...maybe if I post enough I'll just figure it out...only 3 wires.  I think I'll just flip a couple and see what happens.

Did you swap out the relay yet?  The LED's use less resistance then the stock incandescent bulbs.  Problem is the resistance can be so low that the lights won't work.  The stock relay will need to be replaced or modified before they work.  Well actually they just don't blink.  They will stay on...

Wait...the relay??

They blink when my headlights/driving lights are off.....could turning the headlights/driving lights on be causing the relay issue??  Me no know electrical.

Relay for this is under the hood with the rest, right??

Damn, if it's that simple I'll swing into AutoZone on the way to work tomorrow....'cause I really think I have the wires hooked up correctly.

Any more info you can give me Jeffy on the correct relay to purchase??  Will it affect my blinking negatively when the headlights/driving lights are off?

Hmm, so they work when the headlights aren't on?  That's weird since they shouldn't be on the same circuit.  At least I don't think they are.  Typically the lights will 'hold' when a bulb goes bad.  This is to notify the driver that the light need to be changed.  When you drop the resistance the lights will usually either stay on or flash really fast.  To fix this there is the turn signal replay in the steering column.  I believe the's under the gauges on the TJ.  (On a YJ it was on my fuse block.)  A new electro/mechanical relay fixes the problem.  (Don't go cheap and buy the generic one)  Here's the one I have but you'll need a 3 or 4 prong unit.

Sorry...I'm a little slow today.

Of course I have the correct relay in....I put it in 6 months ago when I did the rear LED's...made sure I got one of the newer ones.  They work for both standard AND LED lights.  Stopped the fast flash.

Yeah, weird....both turn signals and all turn signal lights work fine when the lights are off....don't work when they are on.

At first I thought I might have accidentally connected the flasher wire to the running lights wire, but the lights wouldn't flash at all then, right??

Or maybe they would if they flow together to complete the circuit and I've locked them on by connecting the running light wire to the flasher wire on the LED.

I'm going to swap them right now just to see what happens...just can't think of anything else.

Have a PM into the guy on here who installed them first...his seem to work.  At least they work in the daytime! :lol:

This is why I love working on the Jeep by myself...frustrating, but fun figuring crap out.

So, I have the kick as CJ style four inch round LED's installed on the grill.

Turns out they WERE wired correctly.

The problem is that the side signal light and the front (now LED) light basically share the same wires.  While they worked when it was just a turn signal (no running lights), turning the lights on apparantly screws up the load on the relay and causes the lights to stay on.

All I did was take out the bulbs on the side lights and they worked fine.

Put them back in as I rarely drive at night...will order those LED lights that plug into the standard outlets for the side lights tonight...that'll keep me running until I get the tube fenders on in a couple of months...will lose the side light then and replace with a bracketed 2" LED. :D

When I installed my Front LED's I cut all the Inline Resistors and etc.. from the side marker. THen I jsut wired them straight up..

Only reason I don't want to totally mess with the side marker wires is that I plan on using them in the future so I can stay as legal as possible when i flatfender the front end.

I ordered replcement LED bulbs that will plug into the standard bulb socket for the markers last night from 4WD...they were like $15...that should fix it....I hope...
