15x8 to 15x10
« on: February 06, 2007, 03:29:47 PM »
Currently I am running a set of Cragar soft 8's in 15x8 wrapped in 31x11.5 TruXus STS A/T. I really want to get some alloy whees so I can get rid of the heavy steel Cragars. I found a set of alloys' cheap locally. The only thing is they are 15x10. If i bought these would I have a problem with airing down? Anything else I should consider if I move up to a wider wheel?

Thanks

Well it really depends on what you prefer. Both 8 and 10 are good sizes.  Although if you're running 11.5's  on a 10" wheel, you will have very little to no rim protection, especially when airing down.  Not to mention the tire having a higher chance of rolling the bead off the wheel.  Also, keep in mind that wider wheels are heavier.  So depending on the mfg. specs., you could end up with a heavier wheel.  Also, keep in mind the wheel offset will change depending on which wheel you choose.  Keeping the same offset might mean rubbing/clearance issues with a wider wheel.

Wider wheels will hold the tire flatter so the tread will wear more evenly compared to an 8".  With an 8" you need to drop the tire pressure to gain the same contact patch as a 10".  If not you risk uneven wear.

the 10's will also stick out 2" further from your jeep. That is.. if you stay with the same backspacing. Just making sure you realize that
