The YJ is in the process of being rebuilt so I am driving my cherokee, which is a 96 two wheel drive version.  Problem is nobody seems to be able to get the wheels to balance.  New tires, no obivous damage to the rims, checked alignment, nothing looks bent or broken.  The vibration going at highway speeds is driving me nuts.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I have already considered that the folks at the local tire shop may just be a bunch of tards who don't know how to balance tires.

None of the wheels and tires will balance?  That's a bit hard to believe that all 4 wheels wouldn't balance.  I would suspect the tires if the wheels are true.  Also, why would the tire company mount all 4 tires and send you out the door if they couldn't get teh tires to balance.  Balancing tires is super easy.  I used to do it on an older machine that didn't turn the tire for you.  Now all you have to do is close the top and press a button.  Then rotate the tire by hand and put a weight on where it tells you.

What tires are these?  Only tiles I've ever heard of not balancing well are Interco's larger then37".

If the tires balanced, then maybe you have wheel bearings going bad or threw a weight.

I dont know if any peticular ones are hard to balance, but I have taken it back 3 times and they rebalance them and change the position of the weights each time.  Now when I turn the steering wheel I am getting a grinding noise.  I'll check out the wheel bearings though.

Sounds like a bad front hub.

Vibrations could be coming from somewhere else as well, like rear ujoints.

Seems weird that the tire place isn't asking questions.  If they are balancing on the machine then they should be balanced on the vehicle.  If that's the case they should be checking the wheelbearings and perhaps notice some play when changing the tires.

Steering damper.  I could probably use new bearings anyways but significant improvement with a new steering damper and a tire balance from a shop who knows what they are doing.

If you say a steering damper help your problem than I would Check for worn tierod ends, Balljoints and as stated before the wheel bearing hubs. and of these could cause bad Vibes.

The tards only got paid once for the balance that they had to redo 3 times.  When they finally admitted they did not know why it was still vibrating they gave me vouchers for 3 free oil changes.  I was over it so I took the vouchers and left.  I will try to give those away, if they can't balance the tires they damn sure aren't gonna get a chance to mess with the oil.  I changed my own damper. Tires and alignment are just two of those things you cant do at home so you have to venture out in the world and hope not to get screwed I guess.  There is such a difference in the ride now it is hard to tell if anything still feels out of wack.  I'll drive for a little while until some noise or vibration irritates me again and then I'll fix something else.

Wow, screwing up a tire balancing.  That's pretty impressive these day's.   :thumb:
