1990 YJ 2.5 L TBI
« on: February 04, 2007, 09:51:36 PM »
Like most 2.5 L owners I could use a couple more HP.  I am confused about being able to use a TBI spacer on the 1990 engine as every thing I read lists 1991 and newer.  I see from the forum that the gasket is different shaped from that on the 1991 +.  Do I need to change out the TBI with one from a 4.0 L or can I just use one of the spacers that are on the market?  I have seen some places where they say yes and others where they clearly take about 1991 and newer.  This 1990 is my first jeep and I have been doing a lot of reading and I am confused.

No one makes a TBI spacer.  So you'll either have to make one yourself or go a different route.

Well, if you really want MPFI and a realistic 12hp gain then you could do a conversion.

Otherwise, stick with the basics, ignition, air, fuel and gearing.

Making your own TBI wouldn't be that difficult.  You'd need a billet and a drill press.
