Topic: Locksmith time? Lost keys.

I lost my keys at work.  I will never find them because I work construction and my job is a mud pit covered with snow.  I can't for the life of me find the one spare I had.  Is this something a Jeep dealer can help with?  Or do I have to call a professional locksmith and re-key the ignition?  Anyone have this happen to them.

when we locked the keys in our s10 we went to the dealer and after giving them the vin number they made us a pair of keys. im assuming jeep would be the same. so head to the dealer with vin/ serial number in hand

Hopefully the dealer will have it in their records.  Otherwise, you'll have to pop a lock and get a locksmith to make a key.

Or spend $25 for a new ignition cylinder and just replace it.  Takes about 15 minutes if you have a steering wheel puller and lock plate remover

half a tennis ball some gum and my leatherman. it'll be a push button ignition but i'll do it for 20 bucks.

Yeah, but then you'd need to get all the other locks redone to match.  Removing a door cylinder takes only a few minutes with no special tools.  Locksmith should be able to make a key fairly easily.

   Thanks for all your info...went to the Jeep dealer today.  The oldest car dealer in Chicago (since 1919) made me a key for 27.50 tax included.  Things to bring with you are registration or title, picture I.D. and all address should match.  The transponder keys are more expensive like around 125.  I could not believe the sign they had posted for hourly work...$96.95 an hour for labor...based on what the service manual says a procedure should take!  Now I know why they call em STEALERSHIPS.  Anyways, Merry Christmas jeep fans.

First thing I'd do is make copies!  You might want to buy some OEM blanks off ebay.

In a pinch you could cut your own key with a Dremel if you really wanted.  I've done this before.  My current key is so warn that I can remove it from the ignition once it unlocks it.

Wait....Jeeps are supposed to have keys?
I have a key to lock my console... is that what you mean... 
I have a 4 (yes 4) kill switches that go in a certain pattern to have em all in the "on" position and none of my friends can figure them out to start it so I figure a thief won't figure it out either.
Hell there are times leaving the bar it takes me 20 min to get it right... Always miss the switch under the dash..
