motor swap

ok i finally got me a motor for my 98 jeep ....the thing is its a 4.0 5 speed from a 97 cherekee....i got the whole jeep for 500 (be rolled) but what all else do i need that won't be on the jeep i got not....will my tranny crossmember work and also is my frame mounts different from 4 banger to the six??? i know i will need the wiring and ecm.....i've done previous swaps on s-10's and i feel like i can do it...also my cherekee has some sweet leather seats will they bolt to my frames??

Radiator won't swap, frame mounts for the engine won't match.  You'll need a new dash cluster as well.  RPM's signal is different for the tach, IIRC.  Small stuff should interchange.  Evap should work...

ok thanks where can i order a motor mount for my jeep will it have to be welded???will the tranny croxx member work???

The skidplate (trans crossmember) will work with the 4.0L.  For the frame mounts, you'll either need to order some from jeep or cut some off a wreck, not aware of any aftermarket pieces for a 2.5L to 4.0L swap.  Yes, the new frame mounts will need to be welded

Don't forget lengthening the front driveshaft, shortening the rear, and a case or two of beer  :smokes:

Don't think so.  Isn't the reason for the massive shroud on the 4cyl fan because the trans and tcase are in a relatively standard location regardless of which motor they used?

No, he's right.  The difference is in the transmissions.  They're slightly off.  The AX15 is the longest of the bunch followed by the Auto and the AX-5 being the shortest.  There were 3 different driveshafts used because of this.  IIRC, the difference between the shortest and the longest was around 5".

If it's lifted though, he might be able to get away with the stock shafts.

Jeffy is correct, while the tranny/transfer case are in relatively the same location, each driveline type has different length driveshafts.

You might be able to get away with it if you've got the stock one, or you can probably find a someone with a stocker that they've gotten rid of for a SYE/cv driveshaft (If you don't already have one). If you need to change the length, the going rate it seems is about $100 average. I paid about that to have my used CV shaft legnthened and a neew u-joint too.
