Question about Hesco true roller timing chains
« on: November 25, 2008, 08:20:33 AM »
According to the Hesco website the timing chains used on 2.5L, 4.0L & 4.2L Jeep engines are the same part. If I replace my o.e. timing chain set with the Hesco double roller timing set, will I have any clearance issues with the block or cover?

Here's the part in question.

My o.e. timing set has almost 100K on it and it is stretched a bit. When I replace it I figure I may as well step up to something that may help me make a few more ponies.

There shouldn't be any clearance issues. You'll no longer need the tensioner that's inside the timing cover, so you'll just take that out and leave it out.

A double timing chain itself wont give you any more power, it's just stronger to handle the added strain of spinning a bigger cam/stiffer valve springs.

I bought the Hesco single roller chain and it was just a Cloyes #C-3085 chain. It was about 50% heavier looking than the stock chain. (However, I felt like an idiot for paying $120 for a part that I could have ordered for $40 on eBay)

Thanks for the response. I'm going to shop around for a good price if that's the case.
