today proved to be a good birthday. my new winch controller arrived from warn, I got a finger throttle kit from my dad, and computer parts came so now i can play games without it crashing every 10-30 minutes...  :weee:

Warn fails to send you the mount in the box for the control box.  I had to get mine thru the rep who sent it to me free.  Mounts flat on top of the winch.

hmm free you say.. my winch plate came with a mount for the solenoid box. I'm happy with it right now. if i where to move it it would go under the hood but thanks for the info.

Just a FYI, I noticed a 3-5* difference when I had the solenoid box blocking the grill.

not too worried about the temp raise. but now that i look at it it does block a considerable amount of the grill.... i found some time to hack up the damaged winch controller and extracted the switch (the new plastic controllers are a pita compared to the old rubber ones that you could just pry out rather than cutting and prying away plastic.) between homework and cleaning the house this weekend i wont be able to install the switch, but it will be more productive to get my stuff together for the electric fan so i an tare apart the dash ounce anyways...

where can you find a good winch cover for the m8000.. i found some neoprene ones that look like they would be good but they are only for the power plant or the xp/si winches (solenoids are part of the winch). we have used the canvas type ones on you cj and they don't seen to stay in place or work all that well.

I don't run one but I should.  There used to be a company that made cheap ones but I think they stopped.  I'd see if an upholstery/soft top/boat cover shop could make one.  It doesn't need to be that fancy.

Neoprene isn't really a good idea.  First off they are expensive.  Second, UV will kill the rubber and fade the spandex/lycra.  Third, neoprene is more like a sponge and will retain water.  The rubber side will keep water off whatever is under it though.  I'd rather have a cover made from denim though.  Most of the ones you see from Warn and other companies are cheaper vinyl covers.

Oh, I forgot another thing about Neoprene.  It doesn't like to get dirty.  I really don't know why they're even using them as winch covers.

Oh and you'll find that most winch covers will only cover the body of the winch.  Those with Intigrated solenoid boxes are usually covered as well.  It's another good reason to mount the solenoid under the hood.

Found some inexpensive, non-neoprene covers though.

well an unexpected option came up and i Now have a cover... my dad bought a Neoprene cover for a powerplant for his 9.5ti Thermometric ( he got the wrong cover becasue he couldn't find the correct one for it) anyways how his winch is mounted it touch the grill on the jeep so he can't get the cover on... so we put it on mine and it fits surprisingly well. It even covers the solenoid box becasue if its additional height.. it does have some extra baggage to the sides of the solenoid box but for the price (free) i think ill stick with it...
