Exhaust Clips
« on: February 19, 2009, 04:30:00 PM »
Hey everyone.  This is my first post here, but Ive been on Jeepforum for a while.  I was wondering if there were any clips of 4bangers w/ either a header, exhaust, or both.  Mine is starting to rattle, but I dont want to put anything on that will make it sound like a ricer exhaust.  Thanks a lot.

Flowmaster 50. No header. Not a catback, just the muffler with factory pipe. RPM's are between 2500-3000.

This is close to idle.

It's a bit loud but not bad on the freeway. Not sure what my next muffler will be.

Using tools you have not used in a while is like shaking hands with old friends.

Thanks for the vids.  It was a little tough to hear the real sound though.  I was looking at the turbo muffler from summit.  Its a cheap replacement that seems to do what Im looking for (replace the crappy one on there).  The header is still a maybe depending if I can find a cheap one.

I run a Banks cat-back on a stock header, but most people here will tell you that the Borla is the best option (lifetime warranty and all).

That doesnt sound to bad at all.  Do you have any clips of it driving.  The one thing I found with a lot of them is that once it gets under load and around 3k it sounds like a little honda running away.

my friend has a clip of my climbing up a sandy incline the last time we wheeled-so the engine was def pushin RPMs-ill have to find it. it doesnt sound too ricy actually-but it is a bit annoying-ya know it aint a honda when ya hear it comin but its not loud-i think it sounds kinda raw-snorts a lot too. ill try and get that clip for ya

It should be noted that the exhaust note that is heard from outside the Jeep is going to be different then inside.  In Stan's clip, you can really tell how it changes just by moving around the Jeep as well.

Recording should be done from a few feet away so you're not spiking the audio and cause distortion as well.

I used to have a mp3 of mine but I think I lost it.

very true! inside, is more of an annoying drone when ya get on it (at least i think its a bit annoying) forces me to cruise a lot and lay off the pedal to find that sweet spot where its not snarling.  In my case, my buddy bottomed out the jeep and seperated my cat from the tail pipe so the flow isnt completely what it should be and the sound inside is a tiny bit louder than what it should be if it were sealed correctly.
