Turbo 2.5

Well this spring I'm starting on a new project witch will be a lowered MJ with  4 cyl. I'm debating between turbo charging the jeep 2.5 or getting a mopar 2.5 that everything bolts on for the turbo. I'm kinda a jeep purist so for the most part anything but a jeep engine bugs me but then again Jep is part of mopar soooooooooooooo. so of the pros to the Jeep 2.5 is that it is a strong motor to begin with and can take the abuse, another is that since it is a GM bellhousing setup I can use a built t-5 to take the abuse. I've been working alot of the details and gathering parts for awhile for the truck. An I know some people are going to start crying don't lower so don't even start. for one I have a bunch of 4x4s already and another 2wd mj that is getting a prerunner setup. and little do most people know that Jeep used to road race MJs and actualy won to championships with them. So what ya think. At least if I used the jeep 2.5 I'll have the setup to put on other jeeps aswell.

Sounds like a good idea.  I would love to have a turbo TJ and I think someone on here already has a turbo YJ.  You would be unique though there arn't many turbo Jeeps.  Heck I would even go for a BOV on a turbo Jeep.

Well, if it was me, I'd stick with the AMC engine and not the Dodge.  You're going to lose a lot of low-end grunt with that engine.  It's a completely differenet engine.  I'm not sure if it even shares a GM bolt pattern though.

Easiest way I can think of to do a turbo is to get a custom downpipe.  This will be a lot cheaper then to have someone make a custom manifold.  The best location would be closer to the manifold but I've seen them stretch around to the passerger side before, too.  Low boost and you want really need an intercooler.  YOu'll really wat to do some research on the while wastegate/BOV.  With a BOV, you'll lose a lot or power.  It sounds neat but unless you build it right, just slappin on one, will lower your numbers.

I think the biggest problem is fuel management.  Instead of going with larger injectors, I'd look into a piggy back system.  It was discussed in a Supercharger thread a while back.  It seems like the best option.  You might need to go with a larger exhaust depending on how you set up the turbo and what kind you get.

I've thought about doing a turbo myself.  Even though I'm in a Emissions state.  I'd have to swap back to stock every 2 years though.

Unless that T-5 is a WC I'm not sure if I'd use it.  After all that work, I'd probably consider a NV3550 swap.

i've done a turbo. i kept the old exhaust pipe and it is a matter of 12 exhaust bolts to return to stock. i run a garret t25 at 0,5 bar and an extra injector. about 170 hp on the rear wheels (dyno'd with 4.10s and 31s)

Have any pictures?  What are you using to control the extra injector?

i'll get some pics and post them by tomorrow. the injector is controled dy a secondary computer unit (no messing with the ecu), witch has an in-cab tiny control unit (readings: turbo activation, boost pressure, quantity of fuel injected by the extra injector)
