Which cat?
« on: April 24, 2009, 12:33:56 PM »
OK, so I fixed the problem with my engine dying, but I managed to kill my cat before I did so (since there was no spark, the exhaust got flooded with fuel, and it would ignite in the cat, which resulted in a blown out cat); so now I am in the market for a new catalytic converter.  Any recomendations?  I am thinking I may as well get ahigh flow one, but I dont want to shell out $300+ for a Radome Technologies one...  I heard some flowmasters are good?  Any comments or recommendations?

Mine's a Carsound which is a subsidiary of MagnaFlow.  It's stainless steel, hi-flow and bolt-on.

Yeah, I saw from another post when I searched; I ordered one from Q'tech for $90 shipped, and will install it once it arrives (still debating if I take it to a muffler shop because the old one will probably be in pretty bad shape and I dont want to be around the old cat when they take it out!).

Buy a cat-back and replace it all.  That makes it super easy.

Cats are over rated mines been gone cut out with and a peice of pipe in it's place since I got the jeep last year. and here in western washington state you have to have a smog check before you can change the title. so I went to the test place and gave it a shot to get threw before I went threw the hassle of getting and installing the cat. passed with real good numbers.are limit is 1.2% co and mine was 0.5 at cruise and 0.3 at idle. they don't even look to see if everything is there. they just want there $20.00 for testing.
