Depends on the transmission.  Is it a T-5 or an AX-5?

The XJ T-case is clocked lower than a YJ so it will need to be addressed in your crossmember mount.

The '84 transfer case will not be a 231, so I'd avoid it.

Look for a '94+ transmission from a YJ or TJ as it will have the more desirable external clutch slave.
