Anybody know what the largest spare an OE tire carrier will take?  I'm hoping for a 11.5 tire with a 15x8 (4.75BS) w/o having to get an AM carrier.  Has anybody tired this before?

That would the the largest I'd run.  I have some lock sticking problems but nothing else.  I've had it like that for 3 years now.  The tire is a 34x9.5R15 Super Swamper TSL Bias Ply.  Heavy...

Believe it or not, I'm running a 35x12.5-15 on a 15x8 aluminum wheel on the stock tire carrier.  I had to re-weld and reinforce the OE tire carrier (supports and whatnot) and it holds it.

The door does close, requiring a bit of a slam.  I worry mostly about the hinges...  Supporting that kinda weight isn't good at all.  When the door is closed, the hinges don't seem to br suffering much, but the open and closing takes it's toll.  The bolts holding that OE carrier to the tailgate that worries me...  But it still looks fine.

I spent 100.00 for a H/D spare tire  re-inforcement kit that added to the tub, and the tailgate, I have been running a 33x12.5x15 Super Swamper brand new, no tread wear as my spare now for almost 4 years. Tailgate opens and closes fine. Tire is on a steel 15x8 wheel, not sure of back space on it though.

My 34x9.5R15 probably weighs as much as my 35x12.5R15 on a 15.8.

Honestly, I'm going to change it out to a Bestop carrier sooner or later.  It's inexpensive and allows me to use whatever bumper I want.
