I have read much about the electric fan setup. But has no one tried a flex fan? Wouldn't that give you some hp back?

I thought they ate more power up to top vs a clutch setup which is why they've basically disappeared. They are really in the middle of the fan chain, one step below a fixed blade w/ no clutch.

Go electric...it works nice on these 4 bangers.  :thumb:

I was trying to think of a way without having to upgrade the battery and alternator...at least not right now. I think adding the fan would be a pretty big drain...

flex fans are dangerous adn like o fall apart... actually more like explode tarring through whatever is in its path. :yikes:. go electric or stay stock..  :rtfm:

Put the electric fan on with a temp controller and be done with it.  You really shouldn't need to upgrade bat. and alt. unless you're doing a winch, too.  It really is a good mod that gives you a lot of bang for the buck.

My ford fan was $28 at the Junkyard; why risk it with a more expensive flex fan?  In my case, I also spent about $120 on a controller box (Delta Current Contol), and I could not be happier!

I bought my Lincoln 18" fan for around $25.  Came with wires and a relay so that's what I used.  I've been running it straight off the relay since I installed it with no problems.  It's a bit loud and it's like a leaf blower under by Jeep when I turn the ignition on but it's a great investment.  I'll install a thermal switch one of these days.  I'll probably use a basic adjustable box from Flex-a-lite since they're inexpensive.

I went to an auto parts store bought a generic fan that just happened to fit in in the shroud and a wired it to come on with the ignition.  I am thinking about putting a switch on it after an incounter with a deep mud hole.
