intake / exhaust gasket
« on: July 25, 2010, 11:59:12 PM »
94 Wrangler 2.5L.  The gasket is rotted and leaks like a sieve.  Bought a new gasket and have been spraying the bolts with KROIL for the last few days.  Any input and or tips on the best way to replace would be appreciated.

Take your time. Don't bust the studs off or round off the nuts. Did you Kroil the 2 nuts on the exhaust manifold flange at the bottom? Label all your vacuum lines and what not, or at least get good pics of their routing.

When you are putting it back together, hang the exhaust manifold first. Then do the intake. Make sure to follow the torque sequence for both the intake and exhaust manifolds. Run it to operating temperature and re-torque everything.

There is nothing really fancy to worry about. It's pretty straight forward.

Did not get the ones on the bottom, THANKS.  I am going to put new bolts and nuts on.  Grade eight, just need to figure the size.

Don't use grade 8 for manifolds, they need to be soft steel so
as not to break when the manifold expands. They are supposed
to be malleable.

Grade 5 is sufficient. Use anti-seize!
