I want to add a sub woofer to my jeep, but i realy dont want to use up the whole trunk or take the back seat out.  I was surfing and found this:

http://www.offroadtoystore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=OTS&Product_Code=33-5200

the down side is it's pnly for tj's.. i email the guys and they said that they dont make one for a yj.  so i was wondering if any one has eveer seen one for a yj.  any ideas about this would be appreciated, other wise im gonna start my own "project j" and try and fab one up myself.

I'd make one yourself.  The only thing you'll have to watch is the volume inside the box.  Choose a sub then look at the requirements for it then build a box.  I'd make the box out of MDF and besure to use silicon on the joints then paint the inside and out and if you want, carpey or vinyl the box.  I suspect that after it's all said and done, you'll end up with a nicer box at half the cost.

There is another place you could build a box.  The floor behind the rear seat.  Make it flush with the floor, or have a piece that overlaps the rear floor to make it look flat.  I've thought about foing it that way for a while but have always had other priorities pop up.

Why does everyone always have a solution for a subwoofer box, but can't tell me where i'm supposed to put the amp then?

I think I may do as Jeffy says and just fill up the back with a subwoofer box and an amp....I think 4wd.com carries a subb/amp combo unti that bolts into the rear area...wait....

Right now i have my amp mounted underneath the passengers seat, but im gonna move it when i put the sub box in.  Im think of mounting it on one of the wheel wells. Or maybe ill put that in the trunk area and just make a box to go over the amp so its hidden.  I just want to keep the area behind the rear seat as clear of stuff as possible.  Anyway i dont mind the rear seat going up a couple of inches, i dont sit back there.  Ill just shove short people back there when the hard top is on. :D

I put in the Infinity Basslink. (http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/ISEO-rgbtcspd/reviews/20040413/bass_reviews.html) I like it because I can easily remove it when I need the space for other things.  I plan on getting a disconnect to simplify the process.  But even with it in, I have plenty of room behind the rear seat.

Im still gonna go ahead and build the box.  My borther gave me one of his old Rockford HE's. Also if I build the box in my high school shop class i get the wood for free, all i'd have to do is buy an amp for it, and maybe some carpet.

Mount the amp where ever you have room?  I have mine mounted vertically on the wheelwell behind the rear seat.  It's up and out of the way for the most part.

The only reason I wouldn't mount the speaker and amp on the floor is if you wheel where there is a chance of flooding.  Not only up through the floor but through the doors as well.

I thought about mounting my amp under the front seat.  Under the actual seat and not on the floor.  Mounting it in a lockbox or on the back of the lockbox might also be an option too.  Not much room under the dash, but if it's small enough, you could.

As for those Jeep boxes, I don't like them.  They take up way too much room.  You also get a crappy speaker and amp to go with it.  That's why I prefer to DIY.

With my current setup, I can have the speaker out in seconds.  THe amp just sits there but is off.  That reminds me, I need to add that switch to the amp-trigger led.
