Broken Manifold Bolt Therory

I've been contemplating this for a while.  So here it goes.

My bolt broke after my 4" lift was installed.  I used the T-case drop and am still using it.  I still have a recurring exhaust leak, solved by the tightening of the flange bolts every so often.  On 2.5l TJ's there is a hanger on the cat that attaches to the skid plate.  The lowering of the the skidplate stresses the exhaust manifold or header enough to cause the rear bolt to shear.  I belive that the only way to solve this, short of insalling a SYE, is to fab up a bracket and mount it to the frame.  This should also work with aftermarket skid plates as well.

There it is.

They commonly break on jeeps with no transfer case drop, both front and rear exhaust manifold studs.

There is a TSB issued for it, the stealership fixed mine for free even though it was way out of warranty.

There's even a class action but it's only for the 4.0L's.

And I had always heard about it more with the 2.5L

The 4.0L boys should do a class action ref. the exhaust manifolds :P
