bent rubi 44 worth buying?
« on: December 08, 2010, 10:18:31 PM »
I have found a 04 rubicon complete disk to disk on craigslist for 600 obo. The only problem is that the axle TUBE is slightly warped. Based off of the pictures the tube does not seem to be bent that bad and it actually looks pretty straight. I don't think the shafts are bent but I know it is a possibility. I will try and talk him down to about 300 but my question to yall; is it worth it to buy this deformed d44 to replace my d35?

$600 for a bent D44?  The housing needs to be straight unless you like replacing parts.

how much is bent and how it happened, that's very important. It could have hurt the carrier and possibly the locker (which is what you're after with the rubi D44, outer tubes are same as D35 but it does have disks)

With the right technique, pull it straight and truss it.  As long as the locker isn't damaged.

We custom built axles.
I have a ford 8.8 rear end for the Jeep cherokee/comanche/wrangler.
With disc brakes.
The spring perches and shock mounts are ready to be welded in.
Brakes converted for jeep application
Tell me what you have and it will be ready for pick up with all mounts in place.
Direct bolt up to your jeep. Same wheel bolt pattern you have now. Basically the same width.
Has a bigger spline than a dana 44. I can install in your vehicle for additional cost $200.
I can also re-gear to desire ratio and install lockers for a labor cost of $250.

I also have a rear dana 44 and dana 60 for a jeep.
Both dana can be custom made to your needs and narrowed to desired width and bolt pattern.

Custom front Dana 30/44/60 are also available.
By appointment only. I only work on 1 rig at a time due to space. Turnaround is 8 to 10 hours on the install.
Call for any questions.

Got to ask, why is the seller selling?

If seller is not a wheeler upgrading the axle, thus assume he's just replacing the axle do to the fact its bent.

For the price, I wouldn't look at it. There are too many hidden 'faults' that could make it not worth it. Same for your offer price. Even for the disc brake setup.

Better off with 8.8, a TJ D44, or even a D44 from a Scout or Wagoneer. Yah, to get to the non-stock axles under the TJ, you will require welding on brackets, regear, locker choice (automatic (case/lunchbox), manual (air-ARB/cable-Ox), limited slip), wheel spacer, yoke-joint match to rear ds, electrical switch/air compressor setup (if going with ARB locker, cable/shifter is included w/ Ox locker).

All these options for what kind of wheeling do you do?
