Rock-It parts MAP sensor adjuster and crank position sensor

Has anybody used these parts? If so did they perform well. I have searched hi and low and been unable to find a performance chip for my 91 YJ 2.5L w/ manual transmission anywhere.

The MAP adjustor has been used by other people but it's a bit expensive.  Which is why some peopel have made their own.  The first ones out were reverse engineered from the Turbo City kit.

As for the CPS. I'm not sure what the difference in the CPS is.  ALthough you could easily slot an OEM one then adjust the timing that way.

I have seen references to a thread in this forum to build your own adjustable MAP sensor but have been unable to find it. Can anybody tell me where to look, thanks in advance.

I have purchased both the map adjuster and crank position sensor from rocket. I took the map adjuster off right now, but the crank position sensor is still on the bell housing.  You can move the CPS to adjust the timing a little bit.  It helps with the cam that I have.  The MAP adjuster helps out a little bit, although I dont notice much of a difference in hp.
Is it worth the money?  I feel that there are better mods that you can do to make the hp.

Just emailed those guys yesterday, cause they are in Orange, California, which is pretty close to me, and I wanted to see how their MAP adjuster would work in regards to helping/hurting NOX test levels (their MAP Adjuster may actually be the solution to my emissions issues since my intake mods may be causing a lean condition which, then, causes High NOX; then again maybe not; wanted to see if somebody else there had already been down that road, so to speak)

Response from Turbo City

We can do the install at our shop. You must be aware that the MAP adjuster is NOT an emission legal part and the addition of it may cause the vehicle  to fail a visual inspection, even if it helps pass a tailpipe test (which it does).

Subject: Questions

Hello,

I have a Jeep Wrangler YJ that could use your MAP Adjuster part and perhaps the modified CPS .  Don't have a voltmeter or other tools to tune the Adjuster   properly or do a quality install (at an place in LA that
precludes DIY work!).  Does Turbo City do install work or recommend a shop that can perform Jeep-upgrade type work in OC or LA County?

Also been having emissions difficulties, namely high NOX, apparently from a lean-running condition (likely result of intake modifications).   Use
high-octane gas, but I was figuring the MAP Adjuster might richen the fuel
curve and thereby improve performance and emissions.   Am I thinking this through correctly?  Thanks

Chris Franklin

Yeah, so this is the response I received from Turbo City.  Will probably give that a go down there in the next couple of months.  Just have to look at the "Visual Inspection" issues.

I don't think it would be that difficult.  It's plug and play.  You might want to make the leads a bit longer to hide the box though.

Are they going to tune it on an old emissions machine?

Its one of these deals where It'd be cool if they say, "oh yeah, we have about 20 folks come in a year with Jeeps w/emissions problems, high NOX, lean running, due to intake mods, and what always works with CARB is a MAP adjuster set to 'X' voltage..."

If not, probably falling in to a financial "tar pit" where I go from turbo City to Smog to Turbo City to Smog for about a half dozen times, spend about $700 and end up no better off than where I started, emissions-wise.   Course, Jeep will run better, at least.  And, if all else fails I can go see the folks at a "certain" station I went to last go around, 1.5 years ago.  But, would rather not.

No idea if Turbo City has emissions machines, and if so, what type they are.

I suspect they will have an old one.  They are really cool for diagnostic's even though they aren't legal smog machines anymore.

Since every MAP is slightly different I don't see them saying set it to X voltage.  Some MAP's have a wider band then other.

See what you are saying...if they have an older smog machine, you can use it to give a you a frame of reference for what the new smog machines are going to hit you with. Clears old smog, maybe clear new smog..?
