What Inline fuel pump?

Fuel pump died on me out wheeling yesterday. I have had to replace it once before and i hate it. I would like to get a inline pump and be able to have a spare with me so this does not have to happen again. also a buddy said that if i get an inline pump that i will need ANOTHER regulator. is this true?

your regulator will be just fine. not sure why your buddy said that but i would guess he was thinking TJ, your YJ regulator will work just fine with an aftermarket pump.

Been way busy. Great news for the regulator. May be stupid but can i leave the old pump in tank to use as my pick up and just put a new universal one inline? Also what CFM pump should i be running? Thanks again

you can't leave it in the tank unless you spin it (run both pumps).

as far as fuel flow get one rated for at least 150HP (our Jeeps are rated to about 120HP at the crank)

if you want the actual flow go by 150*0.5 (BSFC) = 75lb/hr and convert that to gallons per hour
75/6.34=12 gal/hr at 39psi (this is important)

that is minimum required at full power

wow thank you for the reply! I haven't looked at my FSM and i do not remember how the stock pump is set up but is there a way that i can just remove the pump and leave the pick up? or will i have to get a deferent set up? that's a little too much for what you need. it is listed for LS1 engines and if you click on related components under that pump it tells you it is good up to 500HP (43gph at 40 psi, if you divide that by 12gph it means 3.5 times what you need, you get somewhat the same result if you divide 500 by 150 which is 3.33 so close enough to confirm that 12gph will be enough) - I would say don't go more than 2x the requirement, you'll be pushing all that extra fuel thru the regulator for no reason (you will also heat up the fuel by doing that) and will also draw more current than necessary, nothing will bad happen but not needed really.

if you want to go inline you'll have to remove the pump in the tank and extend the pickup - I would still use the sock (or another sock filter that would fit the purpose).

You could put a inline filter between the pump and tank and use a dirt track pickup in the tank to replace the pump.

Whatever you do there should be at least a strainer filter between the pump and the engine is if the pump coughs up a lung and spits the impeller down the line it stops at a filter.
