Silverwood Lake - An off-road accident near Silverwood Lake involving a yellow 1968 Ford Bronco has claimed the life of the 45-year-old driver. The San Bernardino County Coroner has identified the man as Claudio Tarantino from Upland.
The accident, which was reported just after noon on Memorial Day, was on a remote U.S. Forest Service Fire Road about a mile and a half off Highway 138 and just west of the Silverwood Lake campground.
Paramedics from Crest Forest Fire responded to the accident along with U.S. Forest Service personnel and the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP is investigating the crash but preliminary information indicates the off-road vehicle was traversing a steep declining fire road when the vehicle reportedly began to slide in the soft sandy roadway surface.
The yellow Bronco slid sideways, according to emergency personnel at the scene, and the momentum caused the vehicle to overturn several times before coming to rest on its side.

At 1:22 p.m., the San Bernardino County Coroner reports, Tarantino was pronounced dead from his injuries.
