Ford 19lb injector retainer ring broken
« on: June 21, 2011, 07:50:14 PM »
The o-ring retainer ring on the top of the injector (the side that goes into the rail) is cracked in half. Are these totally necessary for installation? My thought is that they are there so when you remove the injector, the O-ring comes with it rather than staying in the fuel rail. What do you all think or know of it?

I have tried uploading the picture but it continues to say the upload folder is full. The picture was under 256kb too.

Replace the O-rings, they're cheap.

It's not the o-ring. It is the plastic ring above the o-ring.

That email isn't working for some reason.  I have a new one in my profile now.

I'm gonna guess you broke the flared head of the plastic part.  I'd say it's important that it's not broken as it's a flared fitting.  A crack could lead to it leaking and then an engine fire.

If your talking about the round part that is at the very top of the injector (below the Oring they are upside down in this PIC) I would say it's no good. Like Jeffy was saying fuel could leak and lead to a fire.

In the picture, the end that goes into the rail is the bottom end. It is the thin, brownish ring closest to the bottom of the picture.

Here's his pic.

If you buy a seal kit, it should come with a new small O-Ring.  Just make sure it comes with the small seal.  Not all kits do.

How did you get my picture to upload? I go down to additional options and attached the picture and it would say "upload folder full".

Hosted it on photobucket.  Not sure why your folder says it's full.  IIRC, the folders should be pretty big.

In any case, I also noticed the O-ring on the right injector has a few bites out of it.  Replace all of the O-rings.

Thanks. Has anyone replaced the "filter" or "basket" on the inside of these injectors?

I have on Design II's but not on the III's.
How is this kit?

Looks like it's all there.  No experience with them though.
