injectors... in a TJ. what's the lastest story?
« on: July 22, 2011, 02:40:20 PM »
again, I tried searching before posting.

I keep finding the talk of the yj FPR being too low for the 19# injectors, but I can't find anything recent about the TJ install.

is this upgrade still working for TJ applications? without fpr?

2) will it be beneficial standing alone without other mods? as I have the injectors already, but no other mods yet. I plan to get the 4.0 TB and eventually the firepower kit later.

3) what is a good intake to get? a k&n crap cone over the motor isn't doing anything good, right?

I assume you have a 2.5L TJ, if it's a 2.4L then i don know

so if we're talking 2.5L then the injectors you listed are too small, 19.8lb/hr at 43.5psi. the TJ has 49psi fuel pressure so that means 21lb/hr flow, you need 23.2lb/hr (stock value).

Also, i think but not sure that these injectors have a different type connector.

I searched again and got some results this time...

I see what you answered me before that without a fpr, different injectors will provide no gains.

I also found the post that stated the PN I sought and purchased.

After much looking at flow rate charts and spreadsheets I finally came up with the injectors I'm going to try.  The numbers on them are Bosch 0-280-155-857 design III with EV1 connectors.  The flow rates are 19.8  (at)  43.5(3bar).  That equalls to 18.7  (at)  39 (Jeep).  That should give between 5-7% over the stock ones at 17.4  (at)  39.  I'll post when I know something after they get here and I install them.  I hope to build an AF meter by then.
later,
JR

I see now he had a YJ, if that makes much difference.

so, are the ones I have benefical to anyone else? as in, can I sell them to recoup my loss?

i personally don't know as i have a YJ, there were couple of threads here that had part numbers, if it was me i would not use anything over 24lb/hr at 43.5 psi which imo is probably on the too rich side but you can use that as an upper limit (means  25.5lb/hr at 49 psi on the TJ rail, that is about 10% more than stock, 5% i think would be ideal and that would mean 23lb/hr at 43.5 psi).

For example 0-280-150-432 is rated at 23.8lb/hr at 43.5psi => 25.26lb/hr at 49psi => 8.88% increase, i have no idea if the connector on this one is the same as the Jeep and i can't recommend you to use it as like i said i think would be too rich.

other options (but like the one before i have no idea of connector compatibility)
0-280-150-965 would have 3.6% flow increase over stock
0-280-155-934 7.8% increase

probably your best bet is 0-280-156-028 which i think has the same connector and it is high impedance, flows 22.8lb/hr at 43.5 psi, that means 24.2lb/hr at 49psi and results in a 4.3% increase in flow at WOT.

YJ fuel injection is totally different as far as injectors, pressure and PCM itself - YJ runs at 39psi vs. TJ at 49, YJ injectors are rated at 17.4lb/hr the TJ ones are at 23.2lb/hr for their respective operating pressures, the PCM (computer) itself is totally different generation.

I never said that different injectors will provide no gain unless i was referring to a specific injector for a specific application, most likely what you read was probably regarding Ford 19# on a YJ which will flow slightly less than  the stock ones.

Look for threads that cover your model and engine, YJ 2.5 or TJ 2.4 are not the same as TJ 2.5L.

thank you so much for the help.
I didn't mean to misquote you. what you actually said was Ford 19lb injectors don't work on 99 TJ (it will run but you actually lose power)

I was a real newb to jeeps last fall when I got on this forum and bought those injectors.
running the A/c since its raining all july has made me seek more power/ throttle response, so I'm looking for answers again.

I think I have a good understanding of the ratings and what not now.
thanks again.

no problem, good luck with your search.

take some pics of the injectors you bought and post in the "Garage Sale" section, you might want to mention the different connector (if that is the case indeed, i have no idea) - there have been a few for sale in there and they went fast so you might be able to recoup some of your cash spent.

Some tidbits I found while researching.

Stock Siemens injector.

BOSCH 0 280 150 965.

Looks like it could work.

I couldn't find 0-280-156-028 for sale.

I did find 0 280 150 965 for sale here:

0 280 150 965 looks like will work, 24.04 at 49psi with 3.6% increase, looks good to me

not sure if the $23/injector in the link you posted is new or reman, if the latter it's a bit high imo.

Another tidbit:
The 0 280 150 965 injectors were OEM for 95 to 98 Eagle Talons with the 2.0L 1997CC 122Cu. In. l4 GAS DOHC engine.

Edit:  Other Cars to look for if you want to try your luck at the junkyard:

CHRYSLER SEBRING LX (1995 - 1999)

DODGE AVENGER (1995 - 1999)

EAGLE TALON (1995 - 1998)

MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE (1996 - 1999)

DODGE/PLYMOUTH NEON (1995 - 1996)
