F-150 EcoBoost Series of Videos
« on: September 15, 2011, 09:32:25 PM »
Wasn't sure how long they've been out, but I just got a Ford e-mail with the series of torture tests done on the F-150 EcoBoost 3.5L Turbo V6. Pretty awesome demonstrations.

The EcoBoost has been out for a while now.  They have a pretty good record too.  The Baja 1000 truck they had last year was running an EcoBoost V6.  Honestly, I think it's a really good engine.  It gives the 1/2T F-150, Ranger-like mileage.

I was refering to the video series as being out. I've seen your prior posts about the tests and seen the news about the motor for some time.

I didn't realize they stressed tested the engine before it even went to Baja.  I cringed a bit when I saw what they were doing with the logs.  Throwing the chain over the ball like that with that much weight.  They were supposed to tear the engine down at SEMA, IIRC but did it in Detroit instead.  Still an impressive engine.  Kinda makes you wonder why put a V8 in the Raptor.  It will be interesting to see what the other companies will do with their 1/2T's.  It would also be interesting to see if Ford makes a crate engine available.  Seems like a good swap for many different projects.

That was my first thought too. Seems like it would out power their own Raptor's 6.2L V8 on torque even though it's only 50 HP shy. That constant torque impressed me the most.

Seems like they could do a twin turbo for the Raptor.  I think they might consider it as this is the first EcoBoost in a truck and it seems really popular.
