About the Model
1/10 scale R/C assembly kit.
The scale model quality injection-molded ABS resin body and hidden body mounts reproduce the realistic form of the Wrangler (YJ).
The CC-01 chassis features ladder frame bathtub type frame, front double wishbone suspension, and 4-link rigid rear suspension, offering a similar construction as the actual vehicle.
The drive-train features shaft-driven full-time 4WD system and front & rear differential gears to ensure smooth power transmission. The rear differential can be locked to increase traction on slippery surfaces.
Comes equipped with front and rear CVA oil-filled dampers.
Large sized block tires have realistic tread patterns and are mounted on mesh-type wheels.
LED lights are included to depict realistic head (white) and tail (red) lights.
540-J motor included
Tamiya 104-BK ESC (electronic speed control) included.

But Full time 4WD...?  Come on man, needs a 4 channel and build that lets you go 2WD to 4WD, then lets you get all Traxxas with adjustable lockers.   Tamiya "TJ Rubicon?"

When I was at the '11 LB Grand Prix about 7 months ago, Tamiya had a big setup there with an indoor track and people racing  

Maybe I don't get the Tamiya market, but I was talking to some of the guys working there it just doesn't seem like Tamiya is really pushing new tech RC.  Seems more like nostalgia RC, but I'm not really knocking that.  

I had one of their Rough Riders in '80-'81 and tech-wise that kit brought a ton of new stuff to the table as an electric 1/10th scale RC model 30 years ago.   Same with the Porsche 959 I got in '86.  It had the same drive train as this '11 YJ -- full time 4WD, shaft drive front/rear and diffs in front/rear axles.  Just seems like Tamiya kind of backed-off on the innovation in the last 20 years...

But I haven't messed with RC since my last kit, a 2WD Associated Gas truck, that I had in the late 90s.  So I have monumental authority to speak on RC in '11

Tamiya has some fast cars but they mostly race onroad.  Their biggest market is in the Scale RC sector.  They are #1 in that.  Tamiya's bodies are #1 especially the white plastic ones.  Tamiya is probably one of the best is scaled plastic models which transfers over to the RC bodies.

Tamiya was also the first big company to get into scaled rockcrawling.  Prople still use their kits for the base of their crawlers.  Although Axial makes copies of the old HiLux/Bruiser frames with different drivetrain.  I think for the most part, it's still Tamiya and customs that dominate the Scaled RC crawler.  Axial used to make leafs as well as coils for their frames.

There is a huge Nostalgic following too.  The cars from the late 70's and early 80's.  Back then the cars were too expensive for most but people still remember them.  I'm waiting for a reissue of the Super Champ.  That's one of the big Holy Grails for Tamiya cars.

If you want to see the technology then you'll have to look at the TAO3's.  They are pretty heavy into street cars.  They were big in the FWD craze back in the late 90's.  Those cars were fun to drive too.  But they weren't as fast as the 4WD's.  I think all of their cars now are 4WD even if the real car is FWD.

Back then the cars were too expensive for most but people still remember them. 

I remember that.  I had to mow lawns most of a summer to pick up the 959 kit, Futaba transmitter.   Earlier Rough Rider buy/build was a way slower process.

I skipped  the rc stage went from die cast to real thing. saved my money in between lol

rc car kits were my die-cast matchbox.    

I'm not saying I wouldn't play around with RC car/truck kits as an adult. It's probably a lot of fun if you've got a lot of people doing it, drink beer, race, sidebets, etc.   But it's time-consuming to do well, and my time-pockets have been pretty empty last few years.

Looks like they're actually up to TA05 and TA06 now.  TRF416 was their factory team car for a while but I think it's old now.

The title caught my eye, but I got to say that although the body looks good, all elso does not look right.  Bunper, bull guard, suspension...  Even wheels are just too big.  I get that they would not make leaf sprung RC cars, but it just looks a bit off...  Even the mirrors are in the wrong place (well, comparing to MY Jeep, which is what I would be modeling after).
