Supercharger thread?

I know there's a pretty big turbo thread going but I was hoping to hear from people that have looked at a supercharger instead. I have the 2.4 and was looking at a low boost (6 lb or less) setup. I found this website WWW.rjssuperchargers.com and it seems like it would be a much easier install compared to a turbo. Any input would be appreciated.  I called rjs and mentioned that I wanted the boost at low rpms and he said he had a twinscrew for same pricing that boosts at lower rpms. $1,500 seems like a decent price for a bolt on charger that might net 30-40% torque/HP. I'm a little concenered about fuel management (his faq section has some info but not 100% sold).

He's got a bolt-on for a Jeep?  I see hi's done a Grand.  Still doesn't seem to address the fuel issues though.

I've thought about using a centrifugal from Vortec or Paxton.  Housing it is the easy part.  Getting the fuel system sorted out is the hard part which isn't that hard but requires a lot more work.

why not use a vortech or any other centrifugal core for that matter, his looks like a 1/2 way between a fan and a turbine

I talked to Jason @ RJS today and told him what We were looking at. 2.5 yj motor. He suggested going with small Eaton Roots style that he gets in and completely rebuilds for $1050.00. He said Centrifugal take too long for boost and are set up for up to 7k RPM motors. He said these small roots blowers will go up to 15 lb of boost. He also said that I can get a FMU for $160 and larger injectors and in line fuel pump to take care of Fuel management. He does not sell kits. I would have to make my own bracket and install double pulley on alternator to run belt off of.

i suggest going a known route rather than an FMU with a booster pump (it won't work with a supercharger, it will run but you won't be happy).

What would the known route be? I'm thinking the fuel management would be even more tricky on my '03.

Split Second is probably the most common setup.

i think there's an AEM unit (called FI/C or something like that) that has compatible connectors (or you can buy them separately) to your PCM. It also has an integrated O2 signal modifier for closed loop operation.

do you run split second stuff or aem. the former owner of my rimmer set up said if he could do it over he would have gone another route than split second. just couldnt get it right ever. 2000 rpm stumble and the only way he could get it to go away was disconnect upstream o2. ever hear of anything like that?

I'm not ready to do this yet but I may give them a call to get their take on what would be needed for my engine to control fuel for low boost (<6psi).  I'm thinking my stock fuel injectors would be okay?

i am in the process of installing a ftc-1 and split second enricher for my supercharged 2.5l tj. i will let you know how well it works for me

I have a YJ

apparently the AEM is OBDII compatible (by their claims, i didn't use it) and somehow i remember that there's a harness adapter for it which would make the installation really straight forward for a TJ

I can't tell you for sure which one is better, you'll have to do some research - if i had a TJ i would probably give the AEM some consideration

I see a lot of these twin screw superchargers on eBay taken off Mazda milleniums that had 2.3 motors. Seems like it would be a good match for our motors and its a twin screw which I've read are the best for low rpm power which is what I'm looking for. I need to research this more...assuming it needs an intercooler but maybe I could grab that from the Mazda as well?

I was thinking the same thing. I do have plenty of room under the hood though, there's a big spot where the stock air box was that even has some fairly heavy duty bolts I might be able to use to mount a fabricated bracket. It's probably too big of a project for me but sometimes that doesn't stop me ;-)
