IIRC, it was a Bronco D44 so it should be a LP.

I thought the HP came off of the F250's. From what I understand the Bronco's did come with LP fronts. But I am no expert.

You had a HP44 cut down?  F250's had HP44's but they were about 6" too wide.  I thought you were running Early Bronco axles for some reason.

A quick search showed that 5.38 is available for the 9" but the only ones I found were called "lightweight".
Are these different from (not as strong as) the normal R & Ps?

Seeing as most race cars in the US use the Ford 9", you'll find a lot of lightweights.  They're thinner gears.  You can see they mill out a bunch of metal from the backside of the ring gear.

i don't think that's going to affect the strength though, they usually brake teeth, never seen a cracked ring

The only $hitty thing I just found it that those radius arm wedges are casted into the tubes, so I will either have to leave them or retube them.  :brick:

Those bronco axels should be low pinion. The one we have in our garage is. And removing the tubes proved to be a real pita (we gave up on trying to drill out the plug welds as we were geting nowhere with every type of bit we could find)
1990 YJ 4cly, ax5, 2.5 inch BDS lift, 31 MTr\'s,  Powertrax-lockers all around, track-bars removed, boomerang shackles, warn m8000 winch, electric fan. [sold but not forgotten]

Ah OK, that's a full-size bronco which will be HP.

Looks like your instrument panel is pretty rusted, too.
