Engine Replacement

Well,   I was stuck between a rock and hard place.   My Kid exploded my 97 2.5 and sent the connecting rod out the side of the block.   The Jeep is 300 miles from home and I just don't have the time to do the exchange.   So I am paying for it.   :'( Final bill $4070. 52  (this does include a new clutch kit, water pump, temp sensor, OP sensor).    Had to pay 450 core charge since it is useless.   This is the first time I have had to deal with someone else working on my vehicles and WOW does this HURT.

I am asking your thought on this.  Based on what I see for parts, it isn't real bad, and I have a 3 year warranty.   Typical dealer get parts plus 40% mark-up.   Labor was 800 dollars.

Next time, I will drag it home and do it my self.  Just complaining at myself.

That hurts! Labor doesn't look too bad but the engine was pretty expensive.  Did you get a brand new engine?  I would think a used one would have been much less.

Is Tow, remove & replacement of motor too?  
I guess I'm just asking is that from Tow to you driving it out, and everything new, or how much did they swap over from the old motor?

(I assume header/manifold, intake, valve cover at least)

I see them on ebay as remans for ~1800 I think, but that's no labor and I think there is still a 350-400 core on top, so yours doesnt seem too bad.

the core charge seems ridiculous, other than that it's probably an ok total like he ^ said. why didn't you just get a $50 useless short block locally where it's at and use that as a core with the rest of your engine (head should be fine i think).

Final cost on the core was 300.  The head was OK.   The Jeep is at the cabin and I am only there occasionally, so really don't have the time and tools to do any of this myself there.   Got the Jeep back on Saturday.  Sure was a power increase!   They did what looks to be a very nice job.   I checked everything I could get to and they nicely tied back harnesses and all.   The broke a fewe parts in the removal an preplaced those free of charge, I guess they could have tried to charge me for those.  Oh well, this was an experience.   Good news the Jeep is back and running strong.
