Subwoofers
« on: October 28, 2012, 09:33:01 PM »
Well, I've blown apart my Rockford Fosgate Punch 8" sub.  The foam baffle was falling and the bass broke it.  Patched it then it broke again so I'm just going to replace it.  I have 160w to power it so it should be right in the optimal zone for an 8".  I have a .38^3 ft sealed box that I'll reuse.

I've narrowed it down to these to but I'm up for additional suggestions.

Well, I ended up ordering the JBL since I was able to get it $25 cheaper and shipped quickly.  I'll hopegully see it here by the end of the month.

I can say a broken baffle sounds really bad.  Like someone farting all the time...

I've seen alot of people use those 8" GTO's on the audio forums.

Also, I've had good luck with Infinity/JBL/Harmon warranty support.

Good choice IMO.

Next time try this though...

Well, I got the new sub installed.  It's huge compared to the ply RF Punch.  Barely fit through the opening of the box.  I haven't had time to really test it but it's pretty efficient even at low volumes.  I haven't really had time to test it though as it was too dark to do more then just set it up last night.

Anyone know if a flip-up head unit can clear the YJ dash?  I'd like to get a navigation head-unit in there but it's iffy it will clear or not.  I'd need to know how far out the unit can travel and what arch it's making which doesn't seem to be available anywhere.

it won't clear, will be angled as it will hit the gauge cluster bezel - i looked into this at some point and that's the conclusion i came to at that time.

I have been thinking about maybe doing something like this.  It's a bit of a hybrid but solves a few problems that a real CJ dash would make.  I need a defroster.  I also don't really want to cobble the HVAC controls to push-pull and I don't want to lose the dimmer.

The other problem is finding a single DIN flip-up receiver before they all get discontinued.  I think Kenwood is one of the only companies that makes a NAV unit anymore.  Most are just DVD.

actually that's why i went with the autometer gauges and the flat gauge panel to be able to get a flip-up, then i changed my mind but i still like the look of the flat gauge cluster better.

i didn't finish v2 which will have a "carbon fiber" sticker covering the whole thing and more gauges, one day i will

Hmmm...my Kenwood has various angle settings, but I also thought you could set the depth?  Maybe not. Will check when I finally roll out of bed.

It looks like a nice solution.
Here's another with a CJ style gauge cluster.  I'm not too fond of it though.  Rarely do all the gauges in the CJ cluster all work at the same time.
