Liberty Jeeps did come with a 2.8 CRD diesel for a brief couple of years ... something like 05-07 or along those lines. But they had a lot of problems and Jeep did not continue it very long even though they ironed the issues out. I hear that in 2007 or 2008 the federal emissions increased and Jeep couldn't make the 2.8 compliant without spending too much money.

Anyway you can find a few of these Diesel Liberty Jeeps out there, but they are not legal in all states. But there were about 20,000+ of them made.

We got our '14 Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel in and it's everything we had hoped for.  Mileage is in the 30-35 range and easily 700mi + from a tank of fuel.  We'll save a few hundred a month on fuel despite the extra cost of diesel.

And it's rated to tow the same as my '05 Hemi, 7200 lbs.  That'll come in handy.
