So on my way out east today to pick up some CJ parts , going down the L.I.E at around 65 and all of a sudden evil, evil vibration! I thought the Jeep was going to explode! My rear driveshaft ate one of the U joints. Thankfully the one at the rear. After my lift, I noticed a little vibration mainly threw my clutch pedal. It would come and go. I Knew I should get a SYE but I've been putting it off... Anyway I pulled off the express way and with inspection saw the problem. I was close to my dad's shop, so I put it in 4 wheel drive and babied my way there... Normally I have tools on me at all times. of course today I didn't. There in my fiances 93 Yj, I just rebuilt and installed the head this week. I stopped to pickup a new U Joint, and wile pulling into the parking lot the rest of the joint gave on me and the shaft jammed. I'm so happy I was where I was when this happend! I guess I still have some luck! Ironically I just had the front Driveshaft on 93 rebuilt and balanced.. Anyway I put the new joint in and put it back together. All is well. I'm thinking it's time for a SYE. I don't need this to happen again, and more importantly I don't need to have this happen to my Fiance. I have a 91 Yj, 4 inch lift, 2 inch body lift. the 93 has a 6 inch lift. any good recommendations? For mine "the 91" I plan to drop in a 8.8 explorer rear, and ultimately will have a ax15 to replace the ax5. I wanted to put it off until then but I'm thinking now might be a good time. I know the NP231 that is mated to the ax5 has 21 spline and the one mated to the ax15 is 23, but what about the tail? is there a different SYE for each? I'd like to get a ax15 with a np231 already mated to it when I do the swap. As for the 93, that's a TF999 with a np231. she's not doing any real wheeling so I don't need to go to extreme, just make it safe and correct the angles. sorry for the long post!
