wish i would have thought of Ting in a temp sensor their on my tbi yj... would have been better than the through radiator fin style. although like sharp said you may be cooling coolant when the thermostat isn't open yet.

I ran  the probe in the fin style for one summer and took it off .  that florida sun really had it working . that's when I built the manifold for temp sensor, its feed by a by pass hose off the thermostat housing  so its been very reliable comes on @ 185 off @ 165.

You want your fan to turn on sometime after the thermostat opens and off when it's closed.  The Jeeps stock thermostat is a 195*.  When you're moving it shouldn't have to work unless the ambient air temp is really hot as well.

mine is only coming on if I'm at the stop light or moving really slow bumper to bumper, and always stays between 195 and 180 (and i have a 180  thermostat).

That's what mine does as well.  It turns on a few seconds after I come to a stop then turns off if I'm moving more then a crawl.  The fan kicks in if it gets around 200-210 on the gauge then drops it to 195-7.
