Topic: Bumpers and Tire carriers

I've been looking at rear bumers/tire carriers.  It seems a few of the companies aren't around anymore.  Here are a few I like.

Love how the Rotopak's are so slim.  Though I think that's only 2 Gals each.


I know a lot of people like LOD and Jeeperman on Jeepforums.

I kinda like this one since it allows for gas can without pushing the spare too far out.  I don't care for teh angled tire though.  It blocks the tail lights but I like how they're in the bumper.  Not sure if I like the clipped ends though.



I'm also a fan of the HMMWV bumpers.  Pretty simple.



Gavin, Hanson and even ARB make some nice ones but damn, they are expensive when you option them out.  Any others I should be looking at?

I think I'm going to have to add about 1.5" to the rear to compensate for the weight.

The 2.5 is amazingly fuel efficient off road.  If you have a 20 gallon tank you can probably just not worry about carrying extra gas and get a simpler, lighter carrier.

Extra fuel is always nice to have though.  I'd rather not carry it on the roof rack nor inside.  I could also carry water with the same rack.

Here's the one I'm considering.  The only problem is that my 2M antenna is on the left side right where the latch is.  Also, I'm wondering how they have the tail gate mounted with the bracket on the corner guard.  2 stacked shims?  Gonna have to see what they actually do for that.  Though I don't have corner guards.  Was thinking about getting some shorty's but I need them without tail light holes so I can do my own thing.  Oh and the rack is modular so you can have the tire centered and no gas can rack.

I went with LOD, found out about them through a couple friends who run them. Mine should be here this coming week. I'll give a full review when I get it. I bought the Signature Series bumper and tire carrier. I chose to hold off on the options until later.

Kind of reminds me of the Hanson bumper except for the tire carrier.

I am now looking for a way to add a rack for extra fuel and/or water.  Never really had a need for extra fuel in my trips, but water extra water has been needed in MOST of them!  It would be cool to be able to decide which one to take...

Get one of those back packing water filtration systems. They work great, unless you don't have a water source.

No, it don't need to be drinking water; it's for cleaning stuff up (including the radiator!) when it gets all muddied up...

Even if you've got water filtration/purification you'll still want to be able to pack water though.

I have always had room for 2-3 gallons, then filter more as needed on long trips. I had not thought about needing more than that. But it makes sense to have storage for more.

I'm thinking 5 gallons minimum stored inside with the capability to store more.  It's shared water between the Jeep(emergency) and two people.

My rear bumper is enclosed, so I am considering using that, but I fear that if I use it like that, it may start to rust prematurely.  Besides, I don't know if the 3 sections interconnect so that water can flow from one to the other...
