Topic: Tire discussion- what do you guys run/suggest

Going up to 35s when I get off the ship late spring.
A few things I need/want to consider: weight (I want to keep it light) and street drivability (it's not a DD, I want it to perform off road but I don't want a swamper).

My Toyos weigh around 71/72lb as a 33. I love them but their 35s are just too heavy for my little 4 banger.

I've done a lot of reading about the Kevlar MTRs. Weigh less in 35 than my 33s, people seem to like them. I've heard they aren't great in the snow but if you sipe the center lugs they hook up better.

I looked into Mikey MTZs. They weigh even less than the MTRs. But I've heard they wear poorly. They are very close to true size however.

My buddy ran KM2s but i feel like the MTRs may be tougher sidewall wise.

I also started checking out Nitto, I've seen quite a few guys on the West coast running them.

Lastly, I've been told to go with bias ply to save weight. But I don't see any that would be street friendly

I have had pretty good luck with MTRs although I would say to look out for the load rating of the tire you get. I have 35" MTR on my 07 jk and my dad has the same tire but 1 load range lower on his TJ and he gets significantly more traction (even when I air mine down more). KM2s are nice on the street but i have seen to many lose sidewalls off road. my current favorite is Pit bull rockers but they are more of an off-road only tire like supper swamper TSL's but don't chunk out on the rocks like the TSL's do (they aren't lite either).

could not find a weight but a 16 in this tire weighed 69 Lb.

they are 69lbs at a 32x11.5?
Kind of heavy, i'd imagine the 35s are well over 70

I got KM2s 35x12.5x15, they're ok on the street

I've run KMs and have one KM2 on the YJ.   The KM2 has a much thicker sidewall than the KMs, ... and three of the KMs have survived a lot of trails (one did get a sidewall puncture on the trail) so I recommend the KM2 as a very good tire.

I didn't weigh them but what I can say is that with steel rims they are lighter than my old 33x12.5x15 bfg m/t with alloy rims, not sure if that means anything
the M/Ts took a lot of abuse but were a bitch to balance, KM2s are much better for that so far.

and it was the best deal out there - can't remember the exact price but got them from Costco with installation and balancing included in price and $25 off each tire (was cheaper than getting them from one of the tire depots and pay for shipping and installation separate).

I did some digging around and I found that the KM2 are 60lbs each. That's the best weight so far.
I think this is going to end up between km2 and mtr

i have to recommend these i have had them for about a week. they are gateway buckshot mudders. they are bias ply and road manners is well like a bias ply tire but hey go like crazy could be the best snow tire i have ever seen they come in two sizes n78-15 which is what i got they are equal to a 31-9.50 but they measure a true 31" and a p78-16 they are suppose to be a 33-10.5-16 the first pic it is leaned up against a 31-10.50 mounted on a 15-10 wheel

Buckshot's are old school tires.  Hence the antiquated tire size.

I don't think you'll save any weight and on the contrary might be packing on more weight with bias ply tires.  Those Toyo's are heavy though!  Site says 69lbs.  For comparison a KM2 is 67 lbs as a 35x12.5R15.

Honestly, if you can afford, it, I'd get two sets of tires.  One set of TSL's and one set of AT's for street.
