Really unfair "test".

"A bi of a mud pit right now"???  (5:08) REALLY????

They also keep mentioning the tires, but the terrain is bone dry.  I really do not see an MT tire being a big differentiatior from an AT tire (or AT/S as those Yokohama's are called) in that type of terrain...  At least not with that driver in the YJ seat!

My question is why did they not compare the JK 2-door, to make it a fair comparison?  And have some challenging terrain to test them in?  They ARE in Colorado, after all!

'94 YJ 2.5L with 4" RE lift, Superwinch EPi9.0, FoMoCo e-Fan, SD30 and SD35 w/ARB-5.13, 165A alt., 33" BFG KM2 on 15" AR wheels, Sony sound system, Pavement Ends Hardtop, Hydroboost

I think the tires did make a big difference.  The YJ has open differentials and was struggling for traction.  The other problem that isn't as visible is that the YJ still has it's swaybar on.  I haven't looked to see if the track bars are on.  Another is the fact that it had 33's and they looks like stock gearing.  If they're not going to put lockers in it, they aren't going to be putting in new gears.  That means the gearing is more then likely 3.55:1 since ti's an automatic.

The skew isn't towards the YJ but heavily towards the JK.  A short wheelbase would have made it look even worse for the YJ.

What they don't mention at all is price.  If you were to buy a YJ, you could get two built Dynatrac Pro D44 or even Trail 60's and an Atlas with some better tires and it would run circles around any JK and still be cheaper then a Rubicon Hard Rock.

I would put my YJ against that JK any day...  Sure, it would have more HP, and better gearing, but I still would be more than able to keep up with him (even with the extra weigh it carries on it!).

Well, the real caveat is what wasn't in the video.  In an older Jeep, you're always reminded you're in a Jeep, which isn't always fun.  The JK is a much better daily driver.

No argument there...  Softer suspension, creature comforts, electric windows, less wind and noise coming in...  Yeah, it IS a better daily driver.  And it is a much safer vehicle as well, no argument there either.  But the test is about off road capabilities, not comfort or safety (at least that's what they imply).

It's just a fun time.  The vehicles are equipped way to different for a meaningful comparison.

IDK, people weren't as soft as they are today.

Here's some more video of the same track.

A JK Rubicon vs a YJ with no lockers?   Did those dudes think there was a story here?  Think they should stick with what they probably know best:  Gorging on buffalo wings lol

Like Jeffy said would have been nice if they took the track-bars and sway bar off the yj and had some decent tires. I wouldn't give the Jk any credit for it's traction control. System works mediocre when stock and is extremely annoying when it goes haywire and starts pulsing the front brakes when going straight at 30 mph. At least you can do a steering wheel turn and traction control  button combination to  fully disable the system. ... Any real mud and the 4:1 low of the Rubicon would be a disadvantage. Have to start in about 4th gear to have a chance in mud with my jk (thats with 35's and stock gears) otherwise just not enough wheel speed.
1990 YJ 4cly, ax5, 2.5 inch BDS lift, 31 MTr\'s,  Powertrax-lockers all around, track-bars removed, boomerang shackles, warn m8000 winch, electric fan. [sold but not forgotten]
