Looking for a Tramp stamp for a 94 YJ.
« on: September 03, 2015, 10:46:20 PM »
I would like to pull my 3rd eye brake light and spare tire carrier off my jeep and move the license plate to that location.  It has to mount to the existing holes in the tailgate.  The plan then is to mount a new brake light above the license plate. I think it would look so much cleaner than the existing setup.  I have found them for the newer jeeps but not the YJ's, has anyone seen any such thing?

Should be simple enough to make an adapter plate that uses the existing holes.

I do not have the tools or access to the tools anymore.  Used to be that I could go to the auto hobby shop on our local Military base and have access to a lift, tools, welding and sandblast equipment (Used to pay $8 per hour as a retiree).  It was always packed with people, the only employee was the tool issue person, who was a certified mechanic. I would have to buy the tools and start from scratch, easier to buy if it is out there.

This is the only one I can find.  http://www.undercoverfab.com/brackets-and-tabs/164-ucf-tailgate-tag-bracket-antenna-mount-for-jeep-tj.html  I think the plate looks a bit goofy though.

Most YJ'ers would just screw it into the tailgate.  You could probably just silicone it to the tailgate as well.  Use enough silicone and it would be a PITA to remove but not impossible.  The only difficult part would be to add a light though I haven't had any problems without one.

Jeff, obviously, you don't live in the Peoples Republik of Nuevo Yersey.
My brother's Crown Vic has TWO lights over the license plate. One was out. A$$hat-with-a-badge gave him a ticket for 'lack of illumination'.
Some peoples mamas just don't raise them right. :ghey:

Out west, they tend to give slack to cool old cars and trucks though I've been meaning to add a light, just haven't had the time.  YJ and CJ tail light luminated the license plate with a clear section below the light housing.  Also, I have LED taillights which are nice and bright at night and cast a bit of light on the plate.  Costs $19 for a LED or $30 for one with a bracket.  The only problem with these for a YJ is that the gas filler is behind the plate which means making sure the wiring doesn't get hung up.

Police like to ticket plates that have been moved too.  They're really easy targets.  Most people don't bother illuminating them since it's a real PITA.  If you don't mount them straight, they can get you for that as well.  Mini trucks with the plate at 45*, sillyness.  That's why it's best to keep the plate in the OEM spot or else make sure it's easily legible as well as illiminated.
